Camping Trip
On the first day of our trip, we all arrived into school as normal except we were in normal clothes not our uniforms. Once we arrived we dropped all out gear that we would be bring with us on the camping trip. We all then went into the hall and waited until we were told to go up to the lRC to receive our Junior cert results. After this we all told our parents how we did and then got on the busses to go to Lock Dan. Once the bus got there, we took out our camping equipment and started pitching our tents. In my tent was myself, Benji, Robert, Michael, Eli and Vincent.
Once our tents were set up and we had all our sleeping bags out and arranged who was sleeping where, we ate some food and just talked and stayed around the camp site for about 3 hours. After this, the teachers gathered us all up for our first walk. This one was only 5km, not the 22km walk awaiting us tomorrow. It had been raining on and off all day so we all went out in out raincoats and big hiking boots. We started along a road but then quickly turned off onto a muddy dirt track and lots of people slipped and were rather brown when they got back up.
Our walk went through mud but then we went down a steep country road into a swampy area where there was more mud but with the added bonus that you couldn't see it until you were ankle deep in it. We then got to a large group of rocks and took some photos and then headed back. Once we got back from our walk we lit a fire and got lots of wood to keep it going. We stayed out there by the fire until about 11:00.
The next morning we got up and it was biting cold. We had some food and packed a bag to go on the long walk. We set off on the walk quite early in the morning to that we could avoid some rain later in the day. We started off on the walk much like the day before but this time we went in the opposite direction. We started off on a steep road up to the top of the valley and we began working our way around the top of the valley. We stopped for lunch at a beach by the side of the lake. After this, we headed through the swamps and onto the walk that we did yesterday almost going all the way around the lake. So we repeated the journey back from our previous walk and got back to the camp soon after. Once back, we all decided to go swimming in the lake that we had spent the day walking around. After that, we had showers and all were given burgers. Much like the previous night we all stood around the fire and ate our food and toasted marshmallows. After that, we all headed off to bed for the second and last night of our trip.
The next morning, we had to pack up all our things so we emptied the contents of our tent into people's various bags so we could take it down. We did this relatively quickly and early so that we were all packed and ready to go and didn't have to rush. After all the tents were down, we had to walk over the field to pick up any rubbish so that we left the place as clean as we found it and after we did just that we left and got back to the school around 12.Then we all went home for the weekend.
