I went away to France for a long weekend to go to Chateau Feely in Saussignac east of Bordeaux for their harvest weekend. My family and I flew into Bordeaux airport on the friday and we rented a car to drive to the vineyard which with the Bordeaux traffic would take most of the day. We got there at about 6pm and were happy to see our family friends who own and run the vineyard, Sean and Caroline.
The next morning we had to get up early to prepare for the guest to arrive. Which they did at about ten. We then moved up to some vines that had not yet been picked. We equipped each picker with a bucket and a pair of Secateurs. My brother and I had to move up and down the vines and empty people's buckets into our own and then deposit them in big bins on the tractor's trailer. After a few hours we had finally picked all the grapes form the vines and headed to the winery. Then we had to empty the bins that we had filed up into a large machine to extract the juice so that it could then be moved into large vats to start the fermentation process. Then we had a nice lunch filled with people buying wine and drinking from a vast selection.
That evening we went out for a lovely dinner in a nice small french restaraunt with all the people who had shown up to pick that morning. There was great french cuisine and lots of wine from the vineyard of course. We all had a very enjoyable evening and went home. The work had been dun and for our remaining day we went for some walked and ate nice french food.
